Mount Fuji Cherry (Prunus Shirotae)

Mount Fuji Cherry (Prunus Shirotae) is a small but fast growing tree with a gently weeping form when young. As the tree matures it develops almost horizontal branches which give a classic Japanese outline with a flat spreading crown. This particular cherry tree is one of the first cherries to flower in spring. It is named as its blossoms are reminiscent of the snow-capped Mount Fuji in Japan. It produces dazzling, white, honey-scented flowers in early April before the leaves emerge so it is a pretty addition to any garden. Mount Fuji Cherry is a deciduous tree that likes moist but well drained soil. After 20 years it can reach sizes of approximately 4 metres high and 3 metres wide. At Doonwood Nurseries we supply our Mount Fuji Cherry Trees as healthy 6 foot plants.
