Portuguese Laurel Hedges although slower growing than common laurel, can make a magnificent formal hedge. The slower growth rate of this plant allows for it to be trimmed neatly as a formal hedge. Portuguese Laurel have small dark green leaves that contrast beautifully with its dark red stems. This along with white flowers in spring time mean that Portuguese Laurel is an attractive hedge all year round. Plants should be spaced at 2 per metre so as to ensure a full dense hedge is developed. Portuguese Laurel Hedges prefer well drained sites to thrive.
