Laurel (Prunus laurocerasus Rotundifolia) is a fast-growing evergreen plant with rounded, glossy green leaves. Laurel hedges are extremely tolerant of both wind and frost while they will grow in almost all soil types. Can grow up to 20 foot high if untrimmed. Unlike Leylandii, laurel can regenerate from old wood if they are cut back hard.

Laurel hedges are primarily known for their striking, rich green foliage. They also produce delicate white flowers in spring adding year round interest to your garden. If you require a fast growing hedge then laurel is the plant for you! Laurel requires a good hard pruning at least once a year as it can grow to over 20 feet if left alone. We recommend planting laurel at 2 plants per metre in a single row. Laurel is very adaptable and tough so can thrive in almost all soil types except poorly drained sites. It is also very tolerant of harsh winds, frosty conditons and makes an excellent privacy screen for any garden or property. We have a wide range of other hedge plants for sale including Red Robin, Beech, Box, Whitethorn & more.

Each year we grow thousands of hedge plants in our nursery. By producing these plants in the harsh West of Ireland climate, our plants become very hardy by sale time. We also partner with other premium Irish Nurseries to source different/unusual hedging plants. All of this enables us to provide you with top quality plants with strong, vigorous root systems. All of our hedging can be purchased online or at our nursery. They are available for collection or delivery throughout Ireland. Remember, a well chosen and well prepared spot will result in a healthier laurel hedge. Our experienced Doonwood Nurseries team can advise you on the best hedge for your particular situation so as to ensure you get the best results and are always happy to help.
