Japanese Maple / Acer Palmatum Atropurpureum is a beautiful small tree of bushy habit. It is an ideal tree for smaller gardens or patios areas and is known as one of the ‘original’ Japanese maples. This small Acer has stunning bronze/crimson leaves divided into about 7 lobes which turn brilliantly red in autumn. Inconspicuous red-purple flowers in spring may be followed by winged, purple fruits. It is hard not to fall in love with Japanese Maple trees, due to their unique shape, foliage and colours. However, as with all Acers, they do need to be planted in a more sheltered position particularly on this windy Island of ours!
